orest Heights Lodge is a non-profit residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed boys located in Evergreen, Colorado. The residential program, which includes an on-ground school, admits boys between five and fourteen years of age, and enables students to return to a less restrictive environment generally within 18 to 24 months. Founded in 1955, the program has developed a treatment model unique to residential treatment and has an international reputation. Forest Heights Lodge has been accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) continuously since 1974 as a licensed psychiatric facility for children and adolescents and is licensed by the Colorado Department of Human Services. Services are provided without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sexual preference or residence.

Basic concepts since inception have been:
  • Close, personal relationships are what pull children back to the healthy relationships. The child must develop trust in order to grow.
  • Strength and potential should be emphasized.
  • Life should be gratifying.
  • Treatment should be a re-education in living.
  • A child must feel safe to risk both relationships and changing.
The primary purpose of the Lodge continues to be the restoration of children to maximum functioning. Undergirding this purpose is a commitment to the maintenance and strengthening of families. Because of our belief in the critical nature of close personal relationships, we remain a small program, serving 24 boys. We provide outpatient care and do training and consultation throughout the world.
